From childhood, Jan Christis was crazy about cars. When the gardener's son was hospitalized with his bad back in 1953 at the age of 24, he read an advertisement in the newspaper. Trainees were sought for the driving instructor course. Jan Christis did not have to think long about this because he had to quit the gardening business anyway for health reasons. He traded in his own car, a 1947 Buick, for his first teaching car: a Ford 12M. Traffic school Jan Christis was thus born. In those days, you were allowed to teach after training if there was a handbrake in the middle, later there had to be at least a dual control. Within a year, Jan Christis had his first employee and the business began to grow. After the passenger car came the motorcycle, truck and coach. In a short time, the company has grown into the largest driving school in Venlo where you can go for all driving licenses and theory training.
In 1988, Jan's daughter Wilma Christis and her husband Mat van Bergen took over the driving school. Wilma took care of scheduling, administration and human resources, while Mat took care of driving lessons and providing theory classes. As the Traffic School continued to grow, the location on Sloterbeek Street proved too small.
In the year 2000, the Verkeersschool moved to the Guliksebaan in Venlo-South where a completely new building was built.
In 2005, Wilma and Mat van Bergen felt it was slowly becoming time to seek succession. Here, Ruud Rutten of the driving school of the same name and Roy Fleuren soon came into the picture and the first talks were held for a merger, which should eventually lead to a takeover. Initially, a partnership was established in which truck driving licenses were conducted jointly under the name Transportopleidingen Zuid-Nederland.
As of January 2009, Ruud Rutten and Roy Fleuren are at the helm of Verkeersschool Jan Christis and are working hard to continue the heritage of the Christis family in which service and professionalism to the customer is central. From the Ford 12M to teaching with a mobile APP through our PlanGo planning system. A tremendous amount has changed in the 60 years and all this time, Verkeersschool Jan Christis has been at the forefront and we continue to innovate to give the customer the very best!
Per 1-1-2019 Roy Fleuren has decided to focus 100% on Vervoerscollege Venlo this means that Ruud Rutten is still the sole director at Verkeersschool Jan Christis.
As of 1-1-2020, we are located at Alberdingk Thijmstraat 33 in Blerick.
